Scout and Daisy were napping when this family of deer wandered into our backyard. We spotted them from the window as they munched on some wildflowers. Their hearing is so acute, the deer heard us padding around the house! We managed to snap a couple of photos before they wandered back into the woods. The dogs couldn’t be troubled…

Deer belong to the Cervidae family and are closely related to moose, elk and caribou. Found in almost every part of the world, deer adapt well to almost any climate. Unlike cows and sheep, deer do not have specialized stomachs. This means they must eat rather nutritious and easily digestable foods like young, green leaves, flowers, fresh grasses, soft twigs, fruit and lichen.

Hi Leslie,
Loved seeing the photos of the deer in your backyard!
We get them in our Chicago backyard (well, actually in the park behind our house), too.
I’ll email you a photo of one who wandered up from the river.
Unlike Daisy and Scout, Shandy and Bandit are definitely interested and always let us know when there’s wildlife out back. I’m sure our neighbors appreciate the alarm being raised.
Great blog. Thanks for sharing news about Sit Stay Read!
