Overweight Dogs

August 1st, 2007 · No Comments

According to a new survey from the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and Hill’s Pet Nutrition Canada, pet owners are overfeeding their pets. Overweight dogs can encounter serious health problems, so it is in the owner’s best interest to find out their dog’s ideal weight, and then stick to recommended serving sizes. According to the study, 47 percent of respondents did not know how much they should be feeding their pet.

Another area where dog owners can fall into trouble is treat feeding. Table scraps and the occasional “just a bite” from the owner’s plate can really add up to trouble down the road. We recommend smaller treats that are only given out as rewards, or during obvious “play times”. Charlee Bear dog treats are only 3 calories apiece, and are excellent for dogs that need to watch their weight.
