Don’t Roast Your Dog

August 1st, 2007 · No Comments

We’ve always advised caution when it comes to exposing your dog to the summer sun. In fact, our Summer Health Tips For Dogs is one of our most popular Dog Care Tips article. So, it was really nice to come across this article in the Tribune & Georgian. The piece entitled Be Careful Not To Roast Fido This Summer wisely advises that leaving a dog in the car while running errands (during the summer) is a big no-no. Sure, most dogs love going for rides in the car, but the heat in a car can rise dramatically in a very short time.

Jonathan Maziarz, the author of the aforementioned article states “Please, don’t leave your dog in a car this summer, even with the windows open and even if water is provided. It’s just too risky. It might be acceptable to leave your dog in the car if it’s on and the air-conditioning is on full blast, but that leaves another problem — theft. If you read this week’s police blotter, you’ll notice both incidences of auto theft were made easy by the keys being in the vehicle. Until it cools off, leave your pets at home.” Absolutely!
