Stinky Dog Takes Bath (And Hates It!)

July 10th, 2007 · 2 Comments

We absolutely love the bright, cool mornings in southwest Michigan. Warm sun and clear skies provide the perfect backdrop for a nice long hike. Scout and Daisy love running up and down the sand dunes chasing birds and butterflys. When they’re not chasing critters, our dogs love nothing more than finding really stinky stuff to roll in.

And, Scoutie found the motherlode today! You could smell him coming a block away. When we got back home, I grabbed some Comfy Dog and turned on the hose. Scout’s not shy about water. He loves it! He’ll wade in any puddle or pond he comes across. But turn on the hose and you’d think someone was sawing a piano in half. A short five minute scrub down left me utterly exhausted!

The best thing about giving a dog a bath is when they get the post-bath “zoomies”. Immediately after toweling him off, Scout runs around like a maniac! He crouches really low to the ground and won’t stop until he’s out of breath. In the end it makes the bath-time struggle worth it!

I know how you feel about your dog Scoutie running around after a bath. All of our three dogs do that, A Sheltie, Chihuahua, and a Yorkie. Our Yorkie (loves a bath) and when he has rubbed off on towels I put down for him he pops up with his hair all wild looking and his eyes are so wide as if to say “look at me, aren’t I cute?” His hair is so funny looking I try not to laugh just tell him how cute he is. That way it makes them like baths. It is the same when they get a hair cut tell them when you pick them up at the groomers that they “look so pretty”. It really makes the dog feel better.

I love that area of Michigan. I live in Jackson (lots of lakes) The beaches of lake Michigan are great! We are planning a trip in Oct. to go beach combing with our three dogs. Now to bathing. Our Sheltie loves baths and to be dried off. Chihuahua not so much. She turns into one of those Gremlins fed after midnight. Our Yorkie loves baths. I put towels down on our living room floor (after I towel dry him) so he can dry himself off the rest of the way. He pops up with his hair all wild looking and eyes wide as if to say “look at me, aren’t I cute!” This is so funny but I try not to laugh at him. Tell your pet how pretty they look after it is all done and give Scoutie a treat and he will look forward to all of this nonsence of a bath and toweling. Maybe; see ya on the beach(o:
