Summertime Is Pet Sitting Time

June 21st, 2007 · 1 Comment

We all love to take our dogs with us on vacations, right? Okay, well maybe not all of the time. Sometimes folks need a break from the dogs, but then the age old question arises: who will take care of them?

While summer time is vacation time for most of us, it is high season for the professional pet sitter. Pet sitters are busier than ever and the field is growing. No longer does the pet sitter merely fill the dog bowl and water dish. Pet sitters today are expected to feed the dog, take him or her for walks and of course, play with Fido as well.

This is a trend that we can endorse 100%. If you are torn between boarding your dog and having a pet sitter come two-three times a day, we advise the latter. Only choose this option if your dog is completely comfortable and safe having the run of the house. If Fido is content chilling out on the sofa (and doesn’t rip up your pillows), then why force him into a crate with a bunch of dogs he does not know? Dogs usually prefer to stay in familiar surroundings, and if you are going to be gone for the weekend, that’s usually okay, as long as they still can sleep in their favorite spot and don’t have to break up their daily routine. So, opting for a pet sitter is sometimes your best bet. Make sure that they are going to get the royal treatment - food, treats, playtime, walks, etc and you should be all set!

I totally agree. Pet Sitters are the best. Whenever I have entrusted pets with the neighbors it was a disaster! A great site to find a pet sitter is at The Pet Sitter Portal.
